Quantity Takeoffs or Taking off quantities is there a difference ?
Quantity takeoffs (used as a noun) are not subjected to standard rules and are principally a means for calculating materials. A variety of proprietor systems are available.
Taking off quantities follows a standard rules and conventions (NRM2 or SMM7) and include for labour, materials and plant.
A 2023 RICS publication on digitalisation in construction contained data that appeared to show that in countries where quantity surveying is not an independent profession that BIM models are used to generate take-offs in a significant number of cases, whereas in the UK and Ireland instances of using BIM models to generate quantities is much lower.
